On voudrait nous faire croire que l’économie orthodoxe classique puisse être utilisée dans un but entièrement nouveau : Sauver la planète d’une destruction écologique qui est le résultat de l’expansion du capitalisme.
On pourrait arriver à ce résultat grâce à une nouvelle expansion du capitalisme, débarrassé cette fois-ci de ses excès et de ses excroissances !
Une foule de nouveaux venus, s’auto-proclamants ’experts en développement durables’, prétendent qu’il n’y a aucune contradiction entre l’accumulation illimitée du Capital -credo habituel du libéralisme d’Adam Smith à nos jours-, et la sauvegarde de la planète.
Le système actuel pourrait ainsi continuer à croitre en créant un nouveau ’Capitalisme durable’, qui utiliserait l’efficience des marchés afin de préserver la continuité de mère Nature.
En réalité, il n’y a rien d’autre ici qu’une nouvelle stratégie du capitalisme, qui vise seulement à profiter de la destruction écologique planétaire en cours qu’il a engendré.
Today orthodox economics is reputedly being harnessed to an entirely new end : saving the planet from the ecological destruction wrought by capitalist expansion. It promises to accomplish this through the further expansion of capitalism itself, cleared of its excesses and excrescences. A growing army of self-styled “sustainable developers” argues that there is no contradiction between the unlimited accumulation of capital - the credo of economic liberalism from Adam Smith to the present - and the preservation of the earth. The system can continue to expand by creating a new “sustainable capitalism,” bringing the efficiency of the market to bear on nature and its reproduction. In reality, these visions amount to little more than a renewed strategy for profiting on planetary destruction.
